Agreed. I threw my own bit in for good measure.

There was a relatively recent ad for Saab cars on TV, and the tagline was "Born from jets." But the ad finished with tiny print at the bottom that said something about the jet company and the car company not being the same thing. What gives?

Looks like they more or less separated completely 89-90, later breaking off from the Scania partnership in '95. So, it's been a while, kind of like Rolls.

Prior to GM taking a stake in the car company, SAAB autos and aerospace were the same company.

No, I wouldn't buy a car made by 80s IBM, Boeing, and NASA. IBM would ensure the presence of cheap ultra-hard beige plastic and a need to operate everything with a command line (though writing your own programs: nice!), Boeing would double down on the beige plastic and make the car's trunk as a separate bin out of habit, while you could pack extra children in but in some discomfort. NASA... well, NASA would make the whole thing run overbudget, use poor o-rings, and make part of the exterior out of foam attractive to woodpeckers.

Got excited because I saw the Viggen. Had a sad when I saw it was just a car ad.

Actuallyyyyy... Having a degree in aerospace engineering and having worked in the defense industry, I would abso-fugging-lutely NOT buy a car built by IBM, Boeing, and NASA. Nice try Saab!
